Compress PDF to 1 MB
Shrink a PDF to 1 MB or less, the attachment limit on many HR systems, portals and older mail servers. It's a best-effort ceiling: SnapOtter shrinks the images inside the PDF, lowering resolution only as far as the target needs. A PDF that is mostly text or vector drawings has little to squeeze, and if it can't get under 1 MB the result says so and gives you the smallest version it could make.

Frequently asked questions
- Is 1 MB here 1,000,000 bytes or 1,048,576?
- 1,000,000 bytes. SnapOtter uses decimal units, the same way upload forms and most operating systems count, so a file it reports as under 1 MB is under the limit a portal will check.
- Can I compress a confidential PDF to 1 MB?
- Yes. SnapOtter runs on your own server, so the document is never uploaded to a third-party service.
